Countdown timer on Conference Broadcast

When you record General Conference via the Satelite system there is a timer counting down to the starting time which usually has the choir singing and the camera pans around the Conference Center and temple etc.

In our Area a number of the Stakes around are now downloading and playing General Conference through media players. As this is easier and has better play back quality.

Is there a way to get a download of a generic countdown timer similar to the clip played on the satelite broadcast that we can play prior to the start of a session instead of the members just sitting there staring at a blank screen, and also to stop people talking.

Thanks
Brent

We prefer to view the broadcasts live, rather than delayed. But if you really want to keep viewing them later, you could always record about 10 or 15 minutes of one of the live broadcasts before they start and keep that clip as your countdown timer. Then you would play the clip for the countdown and then play the delayed conference broadcast.

For the original posters purposes, I'd suggest downloading the videos of songs from previous conferences. On conference archive pages since October 2009, there is a link to show music. After clicking the link, you will be able to download the video recording of songs sung in that conference. Generally if there are two songs before the first speaker, the first one has a voiceover introducing the session—I'd avoid these as well as congregational singing for your purposes. With 2-4 songs per session from 4 previous conferences (5 now, since you aren't likely to use this idea before April 2012) there should be plenty of content available to provide for your needs.

If you're broadcasting your screen, you could open an app or website with a countdown timer and put the window on top of the choir video so both are visible. For example, on a Mac, you can use the Clock app. Set a timer to end at whatever time the broadcast starts. Set the "When timer ends" option to "Stop Playing" instead of the default alarm sound, to prevent it from sounding like an alarm clock when it's time to start.

For the ultimate experience, you could get a videographer in your stake to create some B-roll footage of a camera panning around the outside of your stake center. Maybe a few drone flyovers as well. :)

That's exactly what I did for my Stake Conference's. I did some video at different angles in front of the building as well as some drone footage from higher up, and then added some Tabernacle Choir music for about 15 minutes and then using OBS, I loop the video. I then use a plugin for OBS where I can set the start time (like 10:00am) and it will have a timer countdown assigned to a text field on the scene that plays the looped video, so then people are aware of when it starts. Comes in handy for those on Zoom that also just sit there wondering when things will happen.
