Use Camera to Send Video to Projector

#1

Post by clarcade »

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new Technology Specialist and we have an Apostle coming next week. One of the things I don't know how to do is to work the built-in camera in the chapel. The next thing is to get the video feed from the camera to then display through the projector we have. The Apostle wants it possible so the entire congregation can see/hear him as he talks. We have a closet full of sound/video equipment (not to be confused with the standard library equipment as the closet equipment pertains to the sound system throughout the building and video pertains to the satellite system and camera). How do I do this? Thanks for the help in advance.

The way I know is to get a camera with a RCA type composite video output. In the back of many chapels is a jack just for this. Connect the camera to that jack.

Then, if you check the RF feeds, on one channel, you'll find the camera. (Many TVs will ignore channels with no sync pulses - so they probably can't find it unless the camera is connected.)

The last part is to find a way of getting from RF to the projector. Sad to say, the usual way of doing that is to use a VCR. Tune it to the chapel channel and then take the video out and feed the projector's composite in.

There are other ways - you could run a cable directly from the camera to the projector. Just find a common video type (like composite) and you're set.

It sounds like your predecessor is the one you need to find and talk to, if you can find him.

There is no standard for webcasting hardward and setups. This was either planned and installed by your predecessor, or one of his predecessors, or the installation supervised by him. So unless you can provide some detailed information about the equipment and how it is set up we would only be guessing as what to tell you.

I don't think he's webcasting (sending the image to another building). It sounded to me like this was just for a big screen in the cultural hall or whatever is used for overflow.

clarcade will have to elaborate since it does make a difference.

I don't think he is webcasting either. But most units install cameras for webcasting. Knowing how the camera was installed and setup will help get to a solution in getting the camera feed to the projector.

I'm not using it for webcasting purposes. The plan is to use the built-in camera they installed in the chapel to monitor the Apostle as he talks to allow those in the overflow to see him. The apostle will use a wireless mic to provide sound to the speaker system and I don't think that'll be as difficult to deal with as soon as we get the wireless mic in (it's coming in the mail). Unfortunately, there is no previous Stake Technology Specialist that I'm aware of, but I'll definitely be looking into this right away. I'm at BYU-Idaho and consequently there is a high turn-over rate for callings (with students moving in and out of the ward/stake). I wasn't sure if there was a standard set of hardware installs for cameras which is why I was asking. I'll try and get more details about the hardware that was installed.

That's exactly what's going on.

clarcade, do you know who installed this? The prior STS or FM Group? If the latter, then I'd hope there would be a set of instructions somewhere. It would be worth asking for.

I don't know as of yet, but I've sent for more information and I'll ask about this too.
