Using Custom Fields to store all kinds of info for each Ward Member for Custom Report

Post by colingardner »

By going to System Options, then "Add Custom Fields" MLS was built to store the "name," "description", and data type, String or Date where-in various kinds of data can be stored for every ward member.. Our ward uses, (1) sports ability (2) music ability, (3) special training, and (4) food speciality: Talents and Interes is "alread" selectable for "MLS Custom Reports". Once entered, any new ones like (1) thru (4) become available for any Custom Report. To "add" such into click on "membership records", and click on "view and update", then select a Member, then select Talents and Interests or Custom Fields, one at a time, as indicated by the options. Any Talents and Interests that are to be "added" to a member, "must" first be in the visible list...There are only about 20 of these that come with the MLS system...By going to the bottom of the page, there is an "ADD" buttom. Click on this, and you can add as many as needed...depending on the input from each ward member. When selecting Custom Fields, select one of them then fill in the space (a box) with info collected for any ward member. Note: More than one line of info can be input, as the Custom Report adjusts the vertical space for the info to be printed on each line.
The defintions for the Extra Custom Fields, up to 11, might be as follows:
Like (1) Tennis, basketball, golf, etc. (2) Like play/teach piano, organ, violin, cello, sing, etc. (3) Like electronics, Barber. welder, Nurse, Dr, etc,
(4) Home-made ice cream, cookies, Dutch Oven Cooking, etc.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you are saying in this post that you didn't already say in this post or this post. There's no need to keep posting the same information over and over, especially in a new thread. Am I missing something?
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

Please note the directive stating that custom fields should not be used to
record a member's political affliation or willingness to participate in (or purchase from)
a multi-level marketing scheme/business. I'm sure it's in the instructions somewhere.

A far better use would be to record patriarchal blessing information.

Also see how I described this subject under Custom Fields dated Thirteenth Nov last year...including the two pages given as attachments..they can be seen and enlarged...This is an excellent way to store all kind of abilities, skills, education, etc which Every Ward Council Member can, with this knowledge, may make meaningful suggestions to his/her Bishop to solve staffing as well meet specific member/ward needs.
