Hi everyone,

I created a website where volunteers translate Church-related books for free. Basically everything that the Church doesn't translate, we will. The Church used to translate great books like Jesus the Christ into all kinds of languages. That all faded out in the 1980's for some reason and now we have new languages opening up in the Church that don't have these great books.

What I would like is for someone to help me develop the site further. It's built on PHP/MySQL/jQuery. The goals right now are: 1. Input all Church-related writings since the Restoration (much can be done programatically). Allow volunteers to mark up formatting and confirm that the original is formatted correctly. 2. Allow volunteers to cross-reference everything any time anything is quoted (Which happens a LOT in LDS books). 3. Input everything the Church has ever translated beside the English. 4. Allow volunteers to translate the rest, offering suggestions even on things already translated by the Church sometimes incorrectly.

So when someone is translating a book that quotes a general conference talk, we should automatically have a link for the translator to the talk so they can simply copy/paste. Also, even after the translation is done, if the conference talk quotes the Book of Mormon and we have since had a new translation done by the Church, we should be alerted if we need to update the translation in the general conference talk and in the book. Also, we'll have something like Google Page Rank, the more often a work is quoted, the more important it will be considered to be and we will guide volunteers to translate it first.

The site right now is consistent yet flexible. We want only a single translation of that general conference talk to exist, no matter how many times it is quoted. But when the talk is updated it needs to be updated everywhere it is quoted. Additionally, we have "Variables" implemented on the site. So when someone is translating Mormon Doctrine and you translate "See Aaronic Priesthood, Angels, Baptism." maybe in your language there are different ways to translate these things. Instead of leaving it up to volunteers to be robotically consistent across all 2,000 articles, volunteers simply put "See {{#var:Aaronic Priesthood}},..." which the system then replaces with the accepted translation from the database. So we will have 100% consistency, and yet flexibility because now we can update a single time in the database if we decided to change later.

I've gathered volunteers in several languages and we've already translated several books using the site. I would appreciate help from anyone who would like to help or has advice on how to make it so several people can develop the site's code.

The Russian section is the most developed since it's a major language that opened up to the Church after the 1980's.
