Automatically Notifiy Stake Leaders of Changes to Ward Leardership

Post by wmmcpherson »

Is there a way in either MLS or the online Directory to automatically notify stake leaders by email of changes in Ward leadership. Such as calling a new Young Women's President or Young Men's President etc..

If not, I think it would be very helpful. Of course timely notification would depend on the ward clerk updating MLS in a timely fashion.

There is no such capability currently.

Although I could see some benefits, in a reasonably large stake (say, 10 wards) such changes will happen quite often. The notifications might get rather annoying. I think it would only be reasonable if you could control the notifications (e.g., all callings, presidencies, just presidents, or none), which would make the feature more complex but more adaptable to personal preferences.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

Yes. I agree that having such controls would be helpful. Even to the point that if it is say a change in the Primary that only the Stake Primary President receives the notification.

Just a thought.

I can see how very beneficial that would be for stake leaders to get notification of changes to callings at the ward level when they are responsible to train the newly called person.
Stake Relief Society Presidency should be aware of changes to ward relief societies. Same for primary, young men (notify of new advisors, not of aaronic priesthood presidency changes), young women, Sunday school presidency.

And then you have the high councilors who are assigned to help with family history or missionary work, or temple work, or welfare assignments and so on. Notifications could be very beneficial to these individuals.

I could use something like this to know when someone gets called as ward website administrator since training them is part of my calling as stake website administrator. There are 13 wards in my stake spread out across 9 buildings so it can be quite the chore to keep abreast of changes. I also need to know about changes in Bishopric since I am their first line of defence for tech issues related to their callings as I am stake technology specialist. I need to train them and help them get their picture in the online directory.

So, I think some kind of ifttt.com style notification of callings changes would be very beneficial since I have to do something with every person that gets put in a certain set of callings.
