Tithing Settlement and PPI sign up calendars onto LDS.org

Postby flintcrump » Thu May 31, 2012 10:47 am

Please create a page for tithing settlement appointment calendars as well as PPI calendars for each organization interactive by membership and adjustable by each organization's leadership or secretary. Then add a feature for auto-reminder the evening before as well as the hour before the appointment by email and by text.

These ideas have already be suggested several times in other forums.

Currently the Calendars application has the best potential for implementing this. However the Calendar application has not matured enough to permit this. This would require giving edit rights to every member of the ward, which can be done manually but is a nightmare to keep up to date. Sending the email reminders is another challenging task since the current reminder system only uses days instead of hours for the reminder period. Having a reminder delivered with that granularity is impossible since the delivery of messages depends not only on the sending system but all servers in between, which nobody has control over, as well as the receiving system/ISPl. SMS would be possible since those are generally instantaneous; but the system does not know who has texting service. And then there is the issue of people with limited texting service and may not want such a message taking them over their limit.
