Watching General Conference on a Sony Television

#1

Post by dallinjeffs »

So I'm really new to this, so please correct me if I've put this thread in the wrong place! Basically, I'm a missionary in Poland and I'm also currently serving as branch president. I'm working on getting Conference set up for our branch here in Poznan and I'm running into some trouble and I'm wondering if anyone had some ideas.
We have a Sony Bravia 42W70-B and we're trying to get the broadcast to work on that. The problem is, youtube is blocked by the church filter, and it appears that the TV is not able to use Adobe Flash, so I'm not sure if we really have any options. I'd be thankful for any help I could get!

I'm not sure what network capability it has, can it get KBYU?

It does have HDMI, Composite and Component inputs. You may need to find a computer and adapt it to the HDMI input though either a VGA to HDMI or Display Port to HDMI adapter.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

I'm not familiar with KBYU. Is that going to require me to use Flash?

There are various ways of getting it. I'm not sure what all of them are.

Are you plugging the network directly into the television and going to a URL? If so, see if you can view anything from http://www.byutv.org/ which will carry all of the conference sessions live.

Or if you are able to use an HDMI-capable laptop to stream the broadcast, feed the HDMI input to the television (the specs say it has an HDMI input). You should be able to get the broadcast directly from LDS.org.

Yeah, I'm continuing to work on the problem, but the it's becoming abundantly clear that the Sony Bravia can't actually play anything directly from the web because it can't play Flash. We also don't really have access to a computer that we could hook to the TV, which would be really nice.

I know as a missionary you don't have a laptop, but perhaps there is a member who would be willing to attend conference sessions at the meetinghouse and be willing to share.

And while this suggestion must be used with great caution, perhaps there is a way to use the administrative computer (if you have one) for this purpose for the weekend. In some of our meetinghouses we do this to bring stake conference into the building when we stream it.

Or does your FM Group have any suggestions?

Or perhaps your mission office might have some ideas.
