Windows 7 upgrade for FHC Computers

One of my stake's FHC has older computers, and the ward FHC folk had attempted to order new computers but instead got a Windows7 64-bit upgrade disk to use on the computer systems. The problem: the computers are not 64-bit: they are running Windows XP (not 64-bit).

Is there a 32-bit Windows7 FHC installation disk that can be obtained? Also, is there a more direct manner to get information other than this support forum (new at this calling)? For example, if I need to contact someone to get the 32-bit disk, how do I go about doing that?

Thank you!

You might double check and see if the processor is capable of 64-bit. What OS it's running now is not necessarily an indicator of what the machine is capable of.

Do you know who your Stake Technology Specialist is?
Do you know the telephone number for FamilySearch Support and FHC Support?
If you are a new FHC director, have you received training from FamilySearch Support?

I suspect that they are not going to be 64-bit processors... but I can have them try the installation disk on one of them to see.

Assuming that they are NOT able to install the 64-bit OS, etc, how do I then try to locate a 32-bit version to upgrade the computers & FHC stuff to Win7 32-bit?

Also, is this forum monitored by Church workers who would have access to such a disk if needed? If so or if not, how do I get in touch with them?

This is simply a user forum, not a forum for official support.

If you tell us the make and model of the computers, we might be able to tell you if they can run 64-bit Windows 7.
There is no 32-bit FHC image available. Rather, your Stake Technology Specialist can submit a FHC hardware order form, signed by the stake president, to replace any computers that cannot run 64-bit Windows 7 Pro. On that form, he will have to list the make and model of each computer for which replacement is requested.

The 2 computers:

1. HP compaq dc 7600 hp s/n 2UA63605G8 xp operating system. It looks like this one will run a 64-bit OS...

2. Dell Optiplex 780 s/n 4211713045 xp; I got varied info --one said it will run stuff, other stuff searched by s/n suggests only 32-bit.

If able to verify, please let me know!

Thank you :)

My search on the Dell site suggests a E7500 process. A quick check suggests it is 64-bit.

The 780 in our FHC came with both XP and 7/32bit DVDs.

Note that the minimum amount of ram for Win7 depends on how many bits: 1 GB for 32-bit and 2 GB for 64-bit.

I am fairly sure we had to replace our hp compaq DC 7600, since it uses a single core Pentium processor.

However, the Dell OptiPlex 780 Ultra Small Form Factor absolutely is able to run 64-bit Windows 7. The trick is upgrading the memory, since it uses DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC memory, and there are only two memory slots.
