Trying to install FamilySearch Indexing from the installer on OSX 10.9.2 and keep getting the following error:

Code: Select all

/Applications/FamilySearchIndexing/indexing.familysearch.org/.install4j/Messages.bundle/Contents/Resources/de.lproj/Localizable.strings Could not create this file. Shall I try again?
Please advise!

I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get it resolved?

Is your computer set to German? "de.lproj/Localizable.strings" is a file that contains German translations for the indexing program's UI.

Same problem. My computer is set to English, not German. I'm on OS X 10.10.5

SAME problem here. I could have indexed a good 500 names by now.

Java issues. App is crazy out of date. They need to get this fixed immediately.

(Of course, if you google it, it's been an issue for over 2 years, and not fixed)

FYI: I tried to download the indexing program today and got the same message. I contacted the help desk and they said it won't work on a MacBook: "In the future we will be introducing a new indexing program that will run on a laptop, but it is not yet ready to be released and we have no release date."

That's not necessarily true – it works on my MacBook. But I've seen others on MacBooks with the issue. Did they provide any other details about what kind of MacBooks have problems, or did they just say MacBooks in general?

It's working now! I was running into the same problem as mentioned in this thread, not being able to create the file. I might also mention that indexing has been installed on my macbook before but decided to uninstall and redownload it because the update was not working for me, kept asking me to update every single time and I was not able to get anything done.
Here is a breakdown of what I did:
I updated to El Capitan (I have a macbook)
Updated Java to newest version
I uninstalled Indexing program
I searched for (using finder) anything related to family search/indexing and moved them to the trash because there were still some files left behind even after uninstall
After moving everything to the trash related to family search/indexing I emptied the trash
Went to family search to redownload indexing
Asked my girlfriend to say a prayer for me before I went through installer
and Bam! Lord answered our prayers
Indexing was successfully downloaded
We prayed and gave thanks
I Hope this helps!
