Trying to download indexing program on Ubuntu 11.04

Postby davideo13 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:21 pm

I am trying to download the indexing program on my computer using ubuntu 11.04 and when I click on the download now button it directs me to a page that has a lot of programming type code on it. I know extremely little about programming languages and I didn't recognize the type of code I saw. Please let me know how I can get this program on my ubuntu OS. Thank you.

Clicking the download button should give you the option of either opening or saving the installer. The installer is a shell script with embedded binary content. Just save the file to your home directory. Then open a terminal window and enter the command "su ~/" followed by the name of the installer file. The one I just downloaded was named Indexing_unix_3_17_3.sh. So the command would be "su ~/Indexing_unix_3_17_3.sh". You'll then be prompted for your password and the installation should proceed.

You can avoid to enter the entire name using wildchar.
So you can enter:
sudo ./Indexing_unix*.sh
