Having the same Java 6 message problem everyone else is having with trying to index from my Mac now that husband updated to Yosemite. Now have Java 8, which the indexing program does not seem to recognize. Uninstalled FamilySearch indexing program, and now cannot reinstall it because the installing software still requests Java 6. :(

I have no idea why this worked... but... I searched this issue on Firefox instead of using Safari. I found this link. https://help.familysearch.org/publishin ... ublic.html
I took my Family Search Indexing stuff back out of the trash and then followed the directions at the above link. It is working now. :) :) :) :) :) :o :o :o :o

After downloading Yosemite on my Mac I haven't been able to index. The screen says-to open indexing you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. I can click ok or more info. When I click more info it takes me to an empty apple support page. Would you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Have you tried installing Java 6 from here?

This was recommended on the Apple support forums.

I kept getting a blank page when I would click the "more info" button after trying to run the installer, but I figured out that if I would momentarily set my default browser to Firefox before clicking "more info", it brought up the correct download page for Java 6. Hope this helps someone!

I had the same problem, and found that the following link will work and enable you to download Java 6 to continue indexing: http://thegothicparty.com/dev/article/h ... mac-10-10/. Good luck.

This worked perfectly for me on Yosemite. I was getting the same error with the installer as those above (needing legacy 6), and so followed the link having never installed the Indexing app before. THANK YOU for this fix!

Same problem here, it works on my other Mac with all the same specs but just not on this particular computer for some reason. There's got to be a glitch somewhere. I'm running the same updated script on both computers and it only works on one, not the other. :( Our family would love to work on indexing together on two computers. Hopefully the fix will come soon and I'll be lucky enough to hear about it when that happens.
