Offline mode?

I regularly run into flaky internet access, and when this happens the Gospel library app will not open. I am wondering if it would be possible to make it open even when it cannot access the internet?

I am able to open Gospel Library without Internet or WiFi access. I am on an Android platform, so there may be a difference with Windows 8.

I would be sure to report the problem through the feedback email address so that the Windows 8 mobile app developers are aware of the situation, and would be able to let you know if this is a problem with the app itself, or a problem that may be related to your particular device.

Member of the Gospel Library for Windows team here.

Unless you're using a very old version of the application, it should be working completely without the need for an Internet connection. Just ensure you have any content you need to use downloaded ahead of going into an Internet-free situation so that it can be accessed.

I ran into a similar issue last week...

During Sacrament meeting our building Wifi was having issues so one of the ward clerks reset it and everything was hunky-dory. But for that 45 minute period my kids couldn’t use the Gospel Library app on our Win8.1 tablets. They were trying to read The Friend and The New Era but no graphics would come up, even on titles that they had downloaded and viewed as recently as that morning.

Does the Gospel Library app download graphics from the church website every time you open a title? Does it do any offline caching?

Do the iOS/Android apps have this same issue?

More information: Wifi was up but not connecting to the internet.

Thanks for a great app!

The application loads the pictures from the Internet to save space. The images would cause what is already a rather large library to be absolutely astronomical in size. This is consistent with the behavior of the other versions of Gospel Library on iOS and Android. We have talked about looking in to see if this will be a possibility in the future, but we can't promise anything in the near future as we're currently working on critical features already present on iOS and Android.
