Ward Website

#1

Post by jamiecking76 »

Compared to the Classic Version and the new version...I noticed there is not a spot to plug in any anouncements or any spot to change meeting times. I also noticed that there is not a link for me to go change any of the info for the ward website. Where's the necessary web administrative features needed to keep up with the ward website on the new version. I thought those were supposed to have been released earlier this year?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jamie

Those features have not been developed yet.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

The current official answer is found at Where is the stake and ward websites link on the new LDS.org site?.

Regarding the schedule, it was never the case that those were to be released early in this year, although at one time the plan was to release them sometime in 2011. Now the schedule for the new News & Information module can be found at When will the new LDS.org Ward/Stake Lesson Schedule and News & Information be available?.

Until the new features all all available on the new site, just continue to use the classic site. That is the only ward and stake website at this point -- with replacement modules for calendar and directory features at this point, and more to come in the future.

Thank you..that's a great help. Also, one other question..

What is the church's stand about having Facebook Groups, Facebook pages, or Facebook Lists? I don't know what is acceptable and what's not. I was counselled by one of the brethren that we're not supposed to have a separate page. I currently have started a personal group on Facebook. There's no page to go along with it. It's just so that anything that comes up with the ward, I can post announcements in case they don't get the announcement thru the ward website or if there is a topic that we want to post to each other.

Thank you...

The official policy is found in Handbook 2, Section 21.1.22.

For wards and stakes, a relevant paragraph from the policy is: "Stake and ward Web sites may be created only by using the official Church Internet resources. Stakes and wards are not authorized to create other Web sites or blogs or otherwise have a Church-sponsored presence on the Internet." As with all policies, those with priesthood keys should make themselves familiar with the policy and then interpret it for their particular areas of stewardship.

It seems clear that a ward cannot have an official Facebook page, but if a ward member chooses to have a Facebook page that facilitates communication, that is in more of a gray area. In any case, all public postings of any kind that deal with Church units should respect the privacy and safety of all concerned, particularly youth and children.
