Seminary home study registration?

#1

Post by mpt2101 »

My family lives in Zimbabwe where the school year is Jan-Dec. However, my children attend a school that is on a US schedule (Aug-Jun). When i try to register, i can only register for the Jan-Dec school year. The coordinator in our stake is unreachable. Howe can i register my children for home study on the US schedule?

This is just a wild guess, but would it work to register now for the local (Jan-Dec) school year, then remember to register again in December/January for the following local school year? That at least would keep your youth in the system.

If you are not able to contact the stake coordinator, perhaps your local Seminary instructor will also know the answer to the question.

Thanks for the reply. That option won’t work because she needs to start seminary now but she can only register to start on January as if she were on a local school schedule. No one here knows how to address this problem. What I need is for someone at headquarters to adjust the settings on my account so that my daughter is registered as if she were in America. I can’t find any contact information. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can get in touch with someone who can help? Thanks

Is there no one else in her school that is in this situation?
Can she be registered retroactively in the Jan/Dec 2018 year? (if that will solve the problem)

Otherwise, I think your only option is to ask your ward clerk to help you contact the Global Service Center.

And you will have to contact someone in CES/Seminary and Institute for her to get credit. Perhaps that is the person you should be trying to contact.

There are 3 others at her school in the same situation, and I’ve volunteered to figure it out for all of them since no one else knows.

The ward clerk has no idea how to put me in touch with global support. Can someone here give me a contact person? I can’t find anything online.

The problem with registering for the 2018 year is that they don’t start D&C until next year. So she would be on the wrong curriculum.

The ward clerk needs to learn how to do that. He should contact his trainer, the stake clerk.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Suggest to him that he go here for contact information.

He might also consider contacting CES and should be able to locate them in the Church Directory of Organizations and Leaders (CDOL).

Zimbabwe isn't on the contact list. Isn't there someone I can just call or email?

(short rant: i've been living overseas for a long time and support from church HQ to far flung wards and stakes is severely lacking. This is just the tip of the iceberg).

This is a user-to-user support group. We share experiences and provide suggestions.

I do not have any names or email addresses to suggest. But I have a little experience in how the Church is organized. And I have lived in little known places outside of the U.S. and understand your frustration. If it were me, this is what I would do.

Because you say you are not able to contact your stake CES representative, your clerk can look in the Church Directory of Organizations and Leaders (CDOL) and find the Seminary and Institute (S&I) Coordinator nearest to you in Zimbabwe. Ask him to give you that name and email address. If that does not work, ask him to give you contact information for one of the Africa Southeast S&I Support Specialists.

And if that does not work, ask him to give you a contact email for Seminaries and Institutes in Utah.

If none of that works, ask your bishop and stake president to go to bat for you and go wherever they need, including to the area president or higher, to help you with this. I do not know who or at what level in the S&I or CES organization this situation can be solved. But someone does. These are the best suggestions I have to help you get farther than you already have gotten.

Another possibility would be to try any Feedback or Help Link at the registration site. Some are notoriously slow to respond, but you might get something there, or perhaps a good contact.
