True,

Hope they open the floodgates soon and let things run. It should only take the 'official' paid translators a few minutes to check a page since they're not very long pages. :)

And if they are too busy there are also "volonteer translator" (like me) ready to help.

The article I posted on the wiki and asked for the translations was a test to figure out a process both externally and internally. As we refine the process, we will open more languages and documents. Thank you for everyone's help so far!

I have noticed some more translated articles have been added to the wiki. I think it would help if an agreed process/system of linking between the english and non-english articles in the wiki was set out.

A proposal that I put forward to be discussed:

Unless the plan is to have seperate MediaWiki installations for each language, I suggest that a simple way is agreed to offer links to translated version of an article. This could be done by way of hatnotes (my preference) or include them in an infobox. IMO Hatnotes would be better as the article may already include an infobox for another reason. A template could be developed to be used when inserting the hatnote.

Thanks for raising this issue -- I was just about to do so myself.

In order to make a good decision, it would be helpful to know if the latest flurry of pages being translated into Spanish is just one person's independent contribution, or if it is part of an actual plan to translate pages. The fact that the Main Page was recently translated seems to indicate that this is an ambitious project, official or not.

If we are going to have translations for a large portion of the pages, then we would be better off with a MediaWiki installation for each language, linking articles with interlanguage links. I suspect that we will get to that point eventually.

But in the meantime, I support the idea of hatnotes generated by a template. The template could generate something like:
This English language article is also available in Spanish and Portuguese.
The template in Spanish or Portuguese could also add the category automatically for the Spanish Pages or Portuguese Pages caegories.

I have been talking with Tom about this and he said that the "clerks team" was working on translating some selected pages (or perhaps he meant that they had in the past) and that "Stake Technology Specialist" page was one of them, which was put up recently. But this recent Main Page translation is indeed an odd one for them to do. I haven't heard back from Tom after informing him of the Main Page translation.

I personally think the current link between English to Spanish on the "Stake Technology Specialist" page is a bit awkward, and this hatbox proposal would probably be better.

Thanks for following up on this. I'll be interested to see what the plan is.

Hatboxes are exceedingly useful for containing hats, but I think hatnotes would work better in this case.:D

Is that anything like a hat trick? ;)
