LDS Church Music Player

Hello I have been using the LDS Church Music Player to practice up on the tenor notes for a song I will be singing with my ward choir.

While using the amazing LDS Church Player, I noticed on a particular song #72 "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty. That when I play just the tenor part it always seems to cut out on the fourth or fifth note, and a few other subsequent notes.

This seems to be the case most of the time, it will cut out every now and then, when I have all parts playing its harder to detect, but one at least one part, it will cut short some notes.

It is not a big deal and I can still hear the note and learn the song, but It would be nice to have that fixed. I have a reasonably fast computer and internet connection, so I do not think this contributes to the problem.

I do realize that when it first starts loading the notes it will cut out at times, and then return to normal, but this is not always the case as it will cut out after the initial click start.
I am using Internet Explorer 7
Here is a link I am hoping to see if any of you experience the same, while playing this song and others.

I think it would be great if we could bring this to the attention of the developers to see if anything can be done to improve the music player, so that it runs more efficiently without cutting out.

Thanks

I don't know how exactly this would play into it, but I have personal knowledge that the Church either hired or acquired the web application from a third-party company here in Utah that developed the Flash site. I guess what I'm saying is I don't know if Church developers are currently managing & updating the site, or whether they still have the other company supporting it.

TrevorD,

I'm not using IE7, but FireFox3 and the parts played just fine for me.
You might try playing this same tune on another computer or try a different browser.

I played it 4 times and each time the Tenor part didn't miss a beat. It doesn't appear to be a problem with the application.

It botched it consistently on the second line for me in IE7 with flash 10. It hits the note and then cuts it short.

With FireFox 2 the error is not consistent. Sometimes (usually) the note cuts short, and other times it is fine. And it is only with the tenor part. None of the other three parts has this problem.

My nickel says there is some sort of problem with the tenor part, or at least the way it is played back.

I wonder if there are other hymns where this occurs?

Thanks for looking into this,

If another company is supporting the site, I wonder if they are aware of these cut outs on the church site.

I will have to install firefox 3, that is good that it works for some of us.

As for other songs where this happens, from what I have tried this morning the Soprano line always plays fine, And the 2-3 songs I have went through it has not missed a beat.

However on my computer, I tried playing through some other hymns like, 100 Nearer My God to Thee, and noticed some cut off notes on alto, tenor, and bass. So at least for me this problem seems to occur with other hymns and has occured on all parts except for the Melodie.

Using IE6 I have confirmed your problem. This would be very irritating for someone to listen to. As you said, it might not be noticed with all the parts playing.

I also went back and listened again using FF3 and it's doing the same thing. Apparently, I didn't understand just what it was that was happening until I heard it in IE.

I suggest that you may wish to provide some feedback using the following page of the site;

Firefox and IE are both needed

Its a very interesting problem to have where both browsers are behaving differently (just like the NFS application).

For ages I heard various friends and colleagues telling me I needed to use Firefox instead of IE. With me being a bit conservative (from years of experience of "if it aint broke, dont fix it") when it comes to replacing the software tools I use I am never ready to jump in and get things "just because". For that reason I would always ask "why should I use Firefox over IE?"

Most of the times the answer would typically come back in one of the following categories:

1) Microsoft has an unhealthy hold on the market
2) We need to be anti-MS.
3) Firefox is more HTML compliant than IE
4) Firefox is open-source
etc....

Of those I saw no feature differences or other reasons that would enhance my user experience of browsing the internet but only political reasoning behind.
With the marketing hype of FF3 being so much faster I did however finally try to put Firefox to a personal test and I was surprised to find out FF has a huge advantage over IE in its add-on's and yet noone used this as a direct selling point.

One big issue with me was that some sites would not display as good in FF as in IE (put aside who is most compliant, I am just acting as a user) and then one person finally said to me "use FF with the IE add-on" and you have best of both worlds. What a great idea and then I was sold when I saw what other add-in's there were that others liked and some I found myself.

Now I use IE Tab, Firebug, Adblock Plus and Forecastfox as well as others available to both browsers (such as LDSToolbar, Cooliris etc). Ok FF3 is now loading slower than IE7 but I now have a browser which is more suited for me and my needs. On top I like the "Chromifox" theme.

On the other side a site like readscriptures.com seems to work well with Firefox 3 but not with IE7 and so yet the ideal browser usage seems to me to be to use Firefox with the IE Tab add-on and you have the best of both worlds.

So now I love Firefox and yet I havent developed an anti-Microsoft attitude and feel the urgency to go open-source on everything.

I Went to the site you mentioned, where I could report this problem, I directed them to this post. This was the response I got.

Looks like it could be fixed soon. :)

"I read your post on the message board. You will find in the interactive player that different notes will be cut short at different times. They were all entered originally, but sometimes they don't all get loaded, and the quality is not great either. When I just played the hymn you mentioned, there was only one note that was cut short, and the rest played as they should. We are changing to a new system, and there is nothing we can do about the quality at this time. Hopefully, it will be better with the new system. Thank you for writing."

Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the Followup

TrevorD,
Many of the Church employees DO monitor these forums as they are very supportive. Thanks for the follow up.
