I can not find information on a YM Steering Committee in any of the current handbooks.

What is the YM Steering Committee?

What does a YM Steering Committee representative do?

Who is on the YW Steering Committee?

The quote is taken from this post.

I agree that this is not an organization that exists in any handbook. At the ward level, the "committee" that "steers" the Young Men is the Young Men Presidency (see HB 2, 8.3.4) under the direction of the bishopric (see HB 2, 8.3.1).

At the stake level, the stake presidency and high councilors oversee the Young Men (see HB 2, 8.15). The only committee mentioned at the stake level is the Stake Aaronic Priesthood–Young Women Committee (see HB 2, 8.15.5).

As a stake clerk, I've been asked to assign each youth who serves on the Stake Aaronic Priesthood–Young Women committee so that it shows as a stake calling. I don't see that in as a "standard calling". Am I missing something? Has anyone else ever entered these in as stake callings for youth?

The first thing is to check the Handbook. If you can't find the calling listed there, then that would explain why there is no standard calling.

That's not to say what your stake is doing is wrong, but if it's not in the Handbook, then you'll have to use a Custom Position to enter it.

The is no standard calling for the Youth who are invited to attend the committee meetings. If your Stake President has called youth to this committee they would have to be assigned under a Custom Calling.

In MLS 3.6 there are these standard callings on the ward level:
Young Men > "Young Men Stake Youth Committee Member" and
Young Women > "Young Women Stake Youth Committee"
I have no idea why the calling name includes "Stake" but it's entered on the ward level... But as mentioned, you can create a custom calling on the stake level if that's what your stake president prefers. This might be handy for him to be able to see all of them at once...

I looked at the YW and I can't really find that calling in the handbook. I suspect the reason may be that the call is extended and sustained in the ward and then the person is sent up to the stake for the meetings. If I'm correct, "Ward Rep to the stake committee" might be a more accurate name.

If that's the case, it would be best to let the wards take care of entering the calling since they can release and call someone else at any time without having to consult the stake.
