Downloading attachment in Firefox uses incorrect filename

Using my usual Firefox browser, I tried to download a PDF attachment to a Newsletter article. But as I clicked the download icon for a file called "Project Guidelines.pdf" I was prompted to open or save a file called "Project".
Opening the PDF attachment works just fine -- the correctly named attachment is opened into Adobe Reader.
But saving the file saves a file simply called "Project" (no .pdf extension). That's not very helpful; you have to rename it to have a .pdf extension to make it work nicely.
This only seems to be a problem with Firefox; Chrome and IE work fine.
