Adult default lesson order for 2014

Postby mschmauch » Wed Apr 16, 2014 10:47 pm

Traditionally the adult lessons (and others) have been taught in numerical and such is even suggested in handbook #2 on page 7.8.1, but for 2014, it seem the default order is not in numerical order. Is this new default order something directed by the General Authorities or a glitch in the software? If it's from the GA, where can I find the documentation?

The software has thrown us a few twists. You might want to read the thread Lessons in wrong order that's pinned to near the top of the forum.

I have read 85% of the posts that pertain to the 2014 Lesson Scheduler and checked the Wiki and all I can fine is frustration in trying to work around the default lesson sequence to put them back in numerical order, but I can find no authoritative reference for who declared that the default sequence is the "inspired order" as declared by one or more General Authorities. I often get the question, "Who came up with this confusing order anyway and why?" Apparently many wards assumed the default order was simply an "early release error" and set out to fix it themselves. I don't think it's an error, but would like some "higher" backup for that assessment.

I'm unaware of a "default order" that isn't the normal numerical order. But what has happened is due to some changes in the software:

On Dec 6th, an update was made that scrambled the order. Some wards noticed that, and fixed the order. On Jan 2, the software error was fixed, so all the classes that were ok after Dec 6 became scrambled.

I have never heard of a situation where someone generated a class and found the order created to be anything other than numerical order. Every case described is coming back later to find things out of order.

Bottom line: It's a software error.

It is my understanding that the order of lessons for Priesthood and Relief Society is determined by the Stake leadership anyway... not by Church Headquarters and certainly not by the "default settings" on a web site. At least that's how it happens in my Stake. The Stake publishes the list of lessons at the beginning of each year (which is often how we first learn the scheduled dates for our Stake Conferences too).
