Assistant Stake Clerk Lesson Schedule Own Ward Admin?

Postby ldenton0 » Sun Mar 31, 2013 8:19 pm

I an an Assistant Stake Clerk and I do not have Lesson Schedules administrator rights in my own Ward. I am responsible for training and support of the Ward Lesson Scheduling admins.
Why do I Not authority in my home ward like the "Setting Up Lesson Schedules" Doc says Stake Clerks have?

"Setting Up Lesson Schedules" Documentation:
Section: "Rights and Roles"
"Lesson Schedules is not available at the stake level, but stake
leaders and clerks have administrative rights for their own ward so
that they can learn how the application works and provide training
and support to ward administrators."

I'm an Assistant Stake Clerk - Stake Technology Specialist, and I do have rights. Are you sure your calling has been recorded correctly using a standard calling? Have you checked to see if it's listed in the CDOL with standard color (not orange)?

Yes I am recorded correctly. I have authority to Calendars, all clerk membership and financial, leadership functions on lds.org. There is no * in front of my calling Clerk Resources - Callings by Organization
I Have also searched the Wiki and nothing out there to help.
By the way my calling is "Stake Assistant Clerk" not membership, Finance nor Technology Specialist

I am new to this support thing for lds.org. What steps can I take to see if there is something that can be done to fix this issue?

You could ask one of the clerks in your ward to temporarily give you an assistant ward clerk calling to see if that makes it work for you. If it works, then we at least know it can work. Then when he removes your calling, see if your permissions go away. Please note that some process might take overnight to update everything, so if you're temporarily given a calling and don't immediately have access, try the next day.

You might need to call the service desk to see if they can figure out why it won't work.

Some church developers sometimes come to visit the forums here and may offer to help, but there's to guarantee.

I talked to Global Services and they suggested that there might be a conflict with my callings in MLS. I found that my ward had not removed me from my previous Primary Teacher calling and when I had my Ward Clerk remove it the problem was resolved. Apparently the Lesson Scheduling System uses the lowest authority of all of your callings instead of the highest level of authority to determine your access.

Maybe if the developers will see this update, and they will address this issue.

Thanks for the help.

I wonder if your primary calling was somehow blocking your stake calling? I have other lesser-permission ward callings than my assistant membership clerk calling. Come to think of it, I also have a lesser-permission stake calling, but I don't think it's a standard calling.

I'm contemplating how this might work as I'm writing my message to see if there's something we can test... I think what's different is that your permissions are coming from your stake calling whereas mine are coming from my ward calling. There are a few others here with stake clerk callings who might be able to try reproducing it.

So, can anyone who is a stake clerk or assistant stake clerk calling try reproducing this? Or tell us if you have lesser-permission ward callings in addition to your stake calling and are able to use lesson schedules?

The specific case is someone with an assistant stake clerk calling and a Primary teacher calling. If you can recreate this and see if you still have lesson schedule permissions, that would be useful. Please report your findings.

ldenton0: if you don't see anyone post here in a few days about trying the experiment, please let me know and I'll see if I can PM someone else to see if he can try it out. It's possible some of the people who can do this are reading the forum and will respond anyway.

I ran into this on Sunday. I'm a stake assistant clerk and a counselor in my ward Sunday School presidency. I was able to do all of the Sunday School presidency tasks for administration (add classes, specify instructors, etc.), but I was not able to add or edit events.

On a whim, we had the Sunday School secretary release me temporarily from my Sunday School calling in Leader and Clerk Resources. After the rights updated (overnight) I was able to go into Lesson Schedules and add events based on my stake assistant clerk rights. After adding the events, he put me back into my Sunday School calling again.

I know this was quoted in the first post, but here's the link to the Rights and Roles help page:
Lesson Schedules is not available at the stake level, but stake leaders and clerks have administrative rights for their own ward so that they can learn how the application works and provide training and support to ward administrators.

Also, since Lesson Schedules is a fairly old app, it hasn't had the updates as in LCR where a person with multiple callings can choose which role is to be active in using the app. I'm guessing it just has some priority system and chooses to look to your Sunday School calling when you use the app when you have both callings (even though your stake assistant clerk calling grants you more powerful administrative rights).

Yes, and I'll bet if it's redesigned or incorporated into Leader and Clerk Resources, the stake level rights within the ward will be removed, since newer tools haven't included that.
