Preferred Name?

When I create an article it only lists my last name as the author.
When I log in, the Welcome message has "Welcome, FirstName LastName"
We can set a preferred name in LDSAccount. Can the system use this preferred name for both of these display entries?
Note to developers: ldsaccount preferred name can include things like utf-8 and even javascript. Please make sure you properly escape it before display.
