Allowed characters in article title

I just created a new article with the title Introducing the 2012 [redacted] Ward Theme: ...
When I saved the article, I noticed that the colon had been automatically removed. I know that some characters (like colons) can wreak havoc when converted to simple URLs, but I don't see that as the case here, as the URL points to a unique numeric ID. Are there other characters that will be removed if placed in the article title, and can anything be done to fix that? I have substituted a comma for the colon in the meantime.
