Instructor field bug

When typing in the name of the instructor a name-list appears, but if I opt to type-out the full-name exactly as it appears in the list and then press enter, it appears to accept the entry but no the entry is saved. Also, same thing appears if I type in a name that doesn't appear on list (ie, preferred name).
