Audio in new Ensign iOS magazine

Last Sunday, our teacher was using the April 2012 Ensign in the Magazine section on the iPad and had set the audio to play for one of the talks. Since the talk lasted for about 15 minutes, partway through the screen blacked out and it turned off the sound. If you are watching video, it can continue without touching it and I know if you are using just the regular audio on the device it can keep playing when it times out but that doesn't seem to work in this instance. Might be a bug.
