Out of unit members not visible in LDSTools

Postby matthewwest » Sun Apr 12, 2015 11:21 am

I have a single father whose children live with their mother. We have added his children to his household in our records as out of units members so they will be visible on primary rolls and such. These children don't show up under his household in LDSTools but they do in MLS. How do we get his children to show up in the LDSTools app so the members are able to call him about activities and such?

If I'm not mistaken, the only thing that gets transmitted from MLS for out of unit members is their callings.

Given that the children live with their mother, I don't think there's any fix for this.

Unfortunately there is no way at this time. Out of unit records don't get transferred to Salt Lake so the information in only available in MLS.

This isn't an uncommon issue so it may already be on the roadmap for some future release but it would probably be worth sending Feedback (using the feedback link on any lds.org page) to ask for this to be supported.

I can only hope that the plan is to implement that when MLS is fully on-line. Perhaps the solution is too complex to attempt to add a program that's approaching end-of-life.

There is support for out-of-unit records in the upcoming release of Leader and Clerk Resources. Those changes will not ported back to MLS.

Thanks everyone. I can see the children in LCR if I go to the Father's record, click on the household tab, then the family tab a little lower on that page. It is interesting that they don't show up as members of his household but they do as members of his family. We do have a woman who is an out of unit member, who has a calling and she shows up in LDSTools.

I've not seen LCR, but make sure that's not showing you "genealogy" information rather than the household. You might want to look at someone else's record - someone with children who are no longer at home.

In the case of "genealogy", the children will show up on his record until (if) they are adopted into a new family - such as when the mother remarries.

Yes, that is the genealogy part. Children show up there regardless of where they live, whether they are adults or not and even whether they are still alive. So just because a child shows up there doesn't mean they live in the ward and it doesn't affect whether they show up in the Directory or the Member List in LCR.

Has this changed with the new updated to LCR?
I'm serving in a YSA ward. Recently all of our Out of Unit member records stopped showing up when searching the YSA Ward directory in LDS Tools. If you go directly to their calling, they are listed.
We have gone in on LCR and re-added them as Out of Unit Member Records a few days ago. However, they are still not showing up in the directory.

The membership record for anything other than members was never transmitted from MLS - only the callings of out-of-unit leaders. So I'm not sure as they ever showed in the directory.

With LCR, at least that record is on-line, but I'm not sure how they show in the directory.
