Missionary access to my area's ward

#1

Post by michaelsheffield »

I am a missionary serving in the USA and used to have access to not only my home ward, but to the ward in which I am serving. This access helps us have up-to-date information about members in the ward without pestering bishops or ward clerks. Furthermore, it helps us know where the members are located. If we visit an investigator and are in a certain area we want to know which members live nearby to make a quick stop or even stop by a less-active in this area before we leave. It is difficult to memorize where every member lives and I have used this map feature to help my companion and I plan our day as we juggle visiting investigators, less-actives, and active members.

A few weeks ago, however, I no longer had access to the map of the area in which I am serving. Was this an intentional change? I was also transferred at this point and perhaps the map system does not know where I am serving? How can I amend this?

Your mission office should be maintaining the location information for each missionary serving in the mission. I would expect that something with your transfer has caused a change there, so I would suggest you advise the mission office of the situation and see if they are able to resolve it.

I will try to speak with our office couple again. I was informed I could change my address or location myself, but perhaps not.

Hello,
I ran into the same problem. I have full access to the online directory for the area where I am currently serving, but the map will only display my home stake. The online directory lets me switch between my home stake and the stake where I am serving, but the maps do not let me switch stakes any more. I lost this ability a few months ago and they haven't put it back yet. The maps online are a very useful resource, but now no missionaries in our mission have access to their area's maps. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

This problem still exists. We, as missionaries, need to be able to see the map for the unit we are assigned to. Does anyone know if this is a bug, is there a work around, or if a solution is in work? Thanks. Elder Kevin Long, Oregon Eugene Mission.

You could have the office staff check IMOS to ensure that you're assigned to the correct proselyting area. If that's not the issue, my guess is that the unit isn't assigned to your proselyting area, so they'd need to assign it. I've run into a few areas with incorrectly assigned units in my own mission, so I wouldn't be surprised to discover that your unit isn't properly assigned.

Thanks for the feedback, but that's not the issue here. You can now see properly assigned missionaries in the ldstools app under the new "Missionary " menu item. I am assigned properly in imos. In fact I can see the directory in both ldstools and on lds.org. I just cannot see the map.

The only two tools currently available to missionaries are the Directory and the Calendar. I don't know if they are working on missionary access to any of the other tools. A workaround solution to get access to all the tools for a unit is to be entered into that unit's MLS as an out of unit member and then be given a standard calling position within that unit.

Thanks. That's what I thought might be the case. Cheers.

Does this mean that missionaries will never have access to their area's maps? The odd thing is that I used to have access to my area's map, but about 9 months ago I lost this feature on maps.lds.org Will they be putting that feature back onto LDS.org? Our mission doesn't have iPads, so we would need access to the map via the church website.
