Creating Wall-Sized Ward Maps

Before the maps update a few months ago I was able to generate a large ward map that was printed and pasted on the Bishop's wall that had all of the households with the associated names displayed. We primarily created it for Emergency Preparedness zones but was used fairly often in Ward Council and Presidency meetings. Now that the updates have removed that "feature", has anyone found a way to do that? I've tested several sites that allow you to update csv and kml files but they all seem to do essentially the same thing. The closest I've found is Google Earth which will plot all of the points and will put up the names from a kmz file but the presentation is very messy given the print size and the inability to turn off the satellite image data. Has anyone tried any GIS software or is there any Street Mapping software that does it? I just can't believe we are going to need to go back to putting pins in a map or sticking little dots on it.

The way I have done that in the past is described in this thread from a couple of years ago, using a commercial product called DeLorme Street Atlas USA Plus. It takes a bit of work, but it can be done.

My answer was to take multiple overlapping screen shots of the needed map area and then use panorama software to as assemble them into a single large pdf. Then it is simply a matter of finding a printer capable of doing it. Watch your resolution if you need good detail. Your screenshots need to be of fairly small areas. A quick stop in photo editing software allowed the additions of titles, legends, compass rose and other features to the map.
