No Access for the Weary

#1

Post by lajackson »

This is a fun one. Being merely the Assistant Stake Clerk -- Technology, I do not have any access at all to Leader and Clerk Resources. So I asked the stake presidency when our stake conferences will be held in 2018. That's something that will come in handy for webcasting, not to mention calendar planning, curriculum planning in one of my other callings, etc.

They responded that they did not yet know when stake conferences would be held next year, and they are just planning for the same weekends as last year until they hear otherwise.

So I, the one without any access (as the Technology Specialist), referred them to the Quorum of the Twelve letter, 5 July 2017: Annual Stake Conference Schedule, which I cannot view.

Sometimes it is fun to have more than one calling.

I remember looking for that letter from the President of the Quorum of the Twelve each year that listed the stake conferences for each year. If I didn't see it come in the mail, I asked the stake president to double check his briefcase for official envelopes. When I found the letter, I immediately posted the events on a stake calendar, so others could plan their events around them.

Oh, but it gets better. The stake clerk forwarded an email to me to check out StakeConference.lds.org for instructions on our upcoming regional. Three guesses who doesn't have access, despite the fact this is a broadcast?

So, I use feedback on lds.org to suggest that STS be given access. They reply that I should talk to GSD. GSD can't do anything - even they don't have access.

I did get what I needed, but only because the stake clerk printed it out and put it in my mailbox. <sigh>

I did note the instructions are the same as far as webcasting. (don't)
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Yep. The guy doing the broadcast has no access to the stake conference information.

For our last regional broadcast, I asked the stake clerk for a copy of the letter. Before he sent it, he read it and suggested some changes to the stake presidency in their conference planning (i.e., follow the instructions in the letter). The event went very well for us because of it.

But they haven't started posting anything to the online Calendar yet, so they have not felt the need to obtain the information. I, on the other hand, am trying to plan the curriculum for next year in one of my other callings.

I was always intrigued that the Primary president was the first to ask for the dates each year, usually in September. The Relief Society president was often next. Then there was the unnamed organization leader who said to me last month, "Oh, are we having stake conference next week? I guess I should tell the teacher not to prepare a lesson."

My only calling is Stake Assistant Clerk--Technology Specialist. However, with permission from the stake president, I additionally have the position of Stake Assistant Clerk, in LCR. Presumably, this is why I do have access to the Stake Conferences section of Reports in LCR (which as it turns out, is a roundabout way getting to stakeconference.lds.org).

That is exactly why you have access. I have not asked for that. My other callings are all at the ward level, and I have plenty of access with them, just not to the stake only things.

But they still like me. I am sure the presidency had a good time in their meeting last evening.

The odd thing is, at one time I had stuff under Leader and Clerk Resources, but no more. This is odd because technology training is one of the responsibilities of the STS, but since I can't see what anyone else has on their page, I'm flying blind unless I'm sitting next to them.

As stake clerk, I noticed that the stake president had a few extra items in LCR than I had. That made it a little difficult for me to train him how to use them, or alert him to the fact that they required his attention. I assume he received email notifications.
