Deleted email address reappearing

Is there a way to track who added a particular piece of information to a member's record? An inactive member had angrily asked us not to contact him. Several months later, I got an angry email from him in response to an email I had sent out to the ward. Somehow, his email address had been added to his record again. I removed the email address from his record as per his request. Today, I see that his email address is back on the record. His wife's is, too (I don't remember it being there before, but don't remember for sure). I don't believe our clerks even know his email address to begin with. I'm wondering if it's possible that this individual added his own email address so he gets another email and can accuse us of trying to contact him again. I don't really know what the point of that would be, but he's initiated contact in the past then blamed us for harassing him.

Is it possible to look up how his email address was added?

There is no indication of how a change was initiated that is visible to normal users. You could try calling local unit support and see if there is any kind of log they can check.

Only a few people in the ward are able to edit contact information – the bishopric, clerks, ward website administrator, and the member himself. Stake clerks as well (if one of them is in your ward). I'd talk with them and see if one of them has been adding information without the member's consent.

I was never able to change email addresses as ward website admin. I always had to walk members through the process to change their email address.

Thanks. I've removed it again and will watch to see if it reappears.
