Assigning HT to missionaries

Postby ckbr00ks » Thu Apr 14, 2016 9:42 am

We have several full time missionaries serving from our ward, and since they remain on their home ward directory of members, the Bishop would like to be assigned as their "home teacher," which is problematic, since they are Elders and can only be assigned to someone from the EQ, not the HP Group. How can we correct this, or can we? This impacts our quarterly report stats. Thank you.

This is not true. They will show up in the unassigned list for the EQ, but you can assign them to any companionship. I believe the technique is to go to the companionship and then find the Elders by name to add them.

There are several issues to consider here. Everything below also applies to visiting teaching except the status as head of household.

1. Four of your missionaries are not assigned as the head of household. Since home teachers are assigned to a household and not to individuals, you cannot assign a home teacher to those four -- the home teachers are assigned to the parents' household. (Visiting teachers ARE assigned to individuals.)

2. You cannot assign a home teacher to a full-time missionary. The system recognizes the full-time missionary status and excludes them from being a candidate to be home taught or a candidate as a home teacher. Your full-time missionaries are not listed as unassigned potential home teachers and the ones without an assignment are not listed as households not assigned to be home taught.

3. Most of your missionaries who are also head of household are currently assigned home teachers. Those assignments existed before they left on their missions and will stay that way until the assignment is removed. If removed from the companionship currently assigned to home teach them, they cannot be assigned to a new companionship.

4. Households can be assigned to companionships in either quorum. When adding an assigned household, you can start typing the name of the family and select a household regardless of the quorum assignment. You can also click the blue drop arrow next to the household name field and the drop list allows you specifically select whether to look for households normally assigned to elders, high priests, or all.

If your bishop is really concerned about it, for missionaries that are currently head of household, all but one of them have parents that live in the ward. Move the missionaries into the parents' households and they are no longer counted as individual households. That won't affect calculations for the first quarter report since the baseline has already been calculated, but will adjust the number of households for future quarters.

So, if I understand correctly, full-time missionaries are excluded from being able to teach or being taught, but are not excluded from counting as "not visited" in the statistics?

They ARE included in the baseline calculation for the quarterly report. That baseline does not exclude the full-time missionaries.

They are excluded from the "not visited" calculations in the home and visiting teaching application.
