Nonresident Members

Postby russelljd » Mon Nov 15, 2010 5:31 am

I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere but after looking around for a few minutes I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Is there a way to give access to the new directory and calendars to nonresident members? The bishopric of our YSA ward cannot get in to view all of the information stored there and I'm wondering what the process is to get them access. They all show up in CDOL as the bishopric of the ward but get an accessed denied error when trying to access the site.

This was addressed back in June:

There will still be some bugs to iron out, as we are dependent on some changes in some of our supporting systems to be able to fully support this type of functionality. Nevertheless, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see how well the next version works in this regard.

I don't have a situation in my stake where I can test this out, so I don't know if it has actually been implemented and deployed, but it sounds like it should have been implemented by now.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

What url are they trying to access? The official calendar for this year is still the one located and www.lds.org/units. There is also a directory located there and, while not containing all the bells and whistles of the one at new.lds.org, it contains what he will need.

The instructions for adding them to the current LUWS is fairly straight forward. You must be an administrator to do this. Enter the Admin Options page and from there:
To add a non-resident member:

  1. Click Non-resident Members.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to add a member. You will need the member's membership record number and date of confirmation. Note: A non-resident member should be added only where there is a legitimate need, as approved by the stake president. When non-resident members no longer serve in the unit, they should be removed immediately.

Like I said in my original post, my question is referring to the new directory/calendar so the urls would be https://new.lds.org/church-calendar/ & https://new.lds.org/directory/

I think they must be having some other problem. I think they should at least have access to their home ward calendar and directory whether or not they are correctly listed in the YSA ward MLS and CDOL.

Have they tried to access it more than once? Could it be that the site was just down when they tried?

I had to email support (feedback button on new.lds.org) to get my access corrected. Bishops usually don't have problems with the out-of-unit calling records. They are processed at the Stake level (an out-of-unit record should be created at the stake level so they can be set in the new bishop form). I've processed 5 new bishops over the past year and all can access the new.lds.org directories correctly (YSA Stake so all are out-of-unit).

I would check with the Stake Clerk/Stake Tech Specialist first, but the feedback button was probably quicker to getting my problem fixed. The ward level out-of-unit is required for MLS access rights, but I'm not sure how it affects the new.lds.org, since the Stake record is the one that changes the CDOL (Bishops only, counselors are set at ward level).

Only Bishops/Branch Presidents showing up in units

Postby jasonhyer » Mon Nov 22, 2010 1:01 pm

I'm a stake clerk in a stake that has a YSA ward and a care center branch that both use out-of-unit members for leadership. I've found that even though we are able to add the out-of-unit members into the unit's MLS, that information is not getting passed on to CDOL, new.lds.org, or the LDS Tools mobile apps.

I noticed this about the same time that the CUBS conversion took place and the one time I was able to talk to MLS support (they have been busy answering CUBS questions), the told me that it was a known bug in MLS and that they wouldn't have time to work on it because of the CUBS conversion. This has caused quite an inconvenience to both units as they work regularly with other wards and stakes and CDOL access is restricted to only those leaders who show up in CDOL. So we have to put the burden on the Bishop and Branch president instead of the clerks like it should be.

The Bishop and Branch president show up because there is a different way of setting them up in MLS at the stake level that automatically updates CDOL. The other leaders aren't included though.

I've searched the forum and the wiki to see if I could find anything else but haven't had much luck. I've just got to keep trying to help bring this up as an issue until they can pay attention to it.

I am the clerk in a YSA ward. Under the old system classic.lds.org access to the YSA website for the senior couples worked fine. On the new lds.org we still have a big problem.

The Bishopric and myself can get to both our home and the YSA ward and stake calendars and membership website. BUT NONE OF US SHOW UP AS MEMBERS OF THE YSA WARD. We are all in MLS and show up on classic.lds.org just fine.

The senior couples serving from outside the stake where the YSA ward resides neither show up as members nor can get access to the YSA ward site even though they are out of unit members in MLS and had access to both wards on classic.lds.org.

On another note, on my droid, if I use LDS tools for membership access I only have access to my home ward and do not have access to the YSA ward. Using the Ward Central Free App I have access to the YSA ward and not my home ward.

Unlike classic.lds.org, the new.lds.org has no way of creating access for non-resident members. Leaders are able to access the non-resident unit info at lds.org/leader because of their position. There is no such option for Senior Missionaries.

Is there going to be a fix for this? Our Sr Missionaries need access to the website for calendar, membership, etc. They serve for 2 years and it would be nice for them to be integrated.

Also none of the out of unit members are showing up in the membership listing, not even the Bishopric.
