Find members not in my stake

Hello,
I have friends in a different stake but my directory will only let me look up people in my own stake. Is there a way to see members in others stakes?

Church leaders do have access to CDOL, which allows them to find contacts for certain leaders in other units, who might be able to provide information; however, that would be only for church purposes. Also, if a bishop needs to reach someone due to family situations, repentance issues, etc., the member services department can likely help the bishop. Overall, since your request was to find "friends" there isn't a way; there needs to be a church purpose.

It would be nice if we could opt in to allowing our own contact information be displayed to other units and or exclude units. I for one really would like to look up people I know without resorting to Facebook.
