When I try to post all my family's pictures in the directory, some will disappear. I have a large family, and each time I go through the steps to add a picture for one of them, another one disappears. Then it may reappear later after I try uploading another person's picture. I tried re-uploading and logging out and back in to try again, but I still have some that didn't seem to load. What can I do to get each person's picture posted?

I just uploaded several pictures yesterday and experienced some strange problems. I was about to re-upload some pictures, but the pictures I had uploaded finally appeared; it just took a while. Normally I see them appear instantly.

I continue to have these problems...it's justlike kendraluthy describes.

I'm an assistant ward clerk. I have full permissions. Photos aren't always appearing and sometimes reappear. I'm just looking at the Directory on lds.org, not at LDS Tools. Does anyone else see this problem?

One thing I've noticed is that when I'm looking at the view of the family in the directory that even though a thumbnail image doesn't always appear, if I click on the "placeholder" photo, the actual photo does appear. Maybe it's just an issue with the thumbnail images?

I'm digging in to this further. My previous post isn't quite correct, either. In some cases, if I click on the photo, it doesn't appear. Sometimes even the "placeholder" image is completely missing.

Here are some other observations:

• This problem doesn't seem to exist with the family photo; it's just for individuals of the family.
• I think this may only affect recently-uploaded photos (the last several weeks).
• LDS Tools on iOS seems to be a little more reliable on showing photos, but even there I see it missing some photos that I know exist and sometimes appear on the Directory.
• LCR also seems to be a little more reliable. I almost thought it was always perfect, but I was checking some photos and it won't always load them.
• Photos in LCR seem to look worse than on the Directory and LDS Tools. There's another thread about bad image quality, but that appears to be about observations in the Directory, not LCR. Could the problem be related? I think any photos where I noticed poor image quality on LCR tend to be newer.

It's clear something is wrong with photos. I don't know what it is. I started trying to take a look, but I don't know the architecture of this stuff. I looks like there's a web service that delivers photos in various sizes. I'm not sure if there's a timeout before it defaults to "no image" or what. Maybe the picture web service is getting too many requests and times out?

There was a directory update. I believe this may have resolved the problems with photos that I was experiencing.

kendraluthy: please check to see if your photos are appearing properly now???

Today I went back to the directory again and the photo problem still exists. I was hopeful that the update would have solved the problem, but it hasn't. Is anyone else seeing problems with their photos not all displaying? It seems to only affect photos uploaded in the last several weeks?

Any news on this? I'm still having problems with pictures disappearing from the iOS app and the LCR membership records. They all show up properly on the Directory though.

We had this problem in my old ward. We finally looked at the member's profile to see what their privacy settings were set to. In every case we had issues, their privacy was set to either leadership only or ward only. For some reason in order for the photos to stay, they needed to switch their privacy settings to stake visibility.

If it's only photos in the past couple of weeks, I'll bet it has to do with photos being copied over to the new photo service. The new photo service will be used in the updated LDS.org Directory and LDS Tools apps. I'm not sure how the process is actually being carried out – but that might be a lead.
