How do I access birthdays (don't need year, only month & day) to do service for fellow sisters in my ward?

Ask the Membership clerk for a list.
That function is not supported by the on-line directory.

I found a birthdate wrong in the directory, can I change from home or do I have to use MLS?

How did you find any birth dates in the Directory? As far as I can tell, no one (regardless of calling) can see any birth dates anywhere in the Directory.
Could it be that you are actually talking about Clerk Resources? Or the LDS Tools mobile application?
In any case, clerks can't change birth dates anywhere on LDS.org at this point. You'll have to do that in MLS.
