I logged into our ward directory today, to see if a new family was listed yet and they were, and underneath their names was "Show Record Number" in blue and when I click on it, it shows me their record number. I don't remember ever seeing this before. I also thought that Record Numbers were confidential. I clicked on a number of other members and get the same thing, so it's not just for new move ins.

I am a Ward Website Admin, Stake Website Admin and a Building Scheduler. My husband is a counselor in the Bishopric and he can see "Show Record Number" too.

I just thought I'd mention this in case it needs to be fixed!

This is new and only those with certain callings can see the record number of all members. It just so happens that your calling as Ward Website Admin and your husbands calling of Counselor in the Bishopric are on the list that can see the MRN.

Although I don't understand why the Ward Website Admin should be able to do so.

Thank you for your quick response. Maybe they added Ward Website Admins to the list because we (I do and am assuming others do too) frequently get asked questions about how to register for an LDS Account and we have to refer the members to the Ward Clerk to obtain their Record Number if they don't have it written down somewhere? That would be the only reason I can think of that I'd need to know someone's Record Number.

We do not know yet whether the ability for a website administrator to see the MRN was intentional or a mistake. Someone suggested that when the MRN was added to the Directory that it is possible all Directory administrators as a group where given the ability to view it. I am guessing that if the ability to view the MRN is lost for the website administrator some time in a future release of Directory then we will know it was a mistake. I am of the opinion it was a mistake even though it helps me in performing some of my website administrator duties.

Thanks for the comments. If that feature disappears for me, I will know why.
