You can't it has to be done through the MLS system by your Ward Clerk.

Is that a feature they plan to add at some time? I get emails (while I'm home) of people that want to change the preferred name and it would be a lot nicer if I could just change them.

I would guess that once Clerk resources is fully running on the internet that you should be able to do this then.

That feature probably will be added at some point in the future for the clerk using the clerk portal, not the directory.

But the church rarely if ever gives a timeline or adjusts priorities based on end-user input.

Can clerks make this change yet? (I'm an executive secretary and I don't see any options to change this)

I do not believe so yet online. You will need to use MLS on the clerk administrative computer. And I suspect you will need to be a clerk or assistant to do it online when it becomes available, although you may have been given MLS permissions now to do it.

With Leader and Clerk Resources 3.0 (coming late June) it will be possible for a clerk to edit preferred names online.

Name information (full and preferred names) can be edited online using LCR 2.8. Editing the name is limited to bishops and clerks. Counselors and executive secretaries cannot edit names.

Surprisingly this still isn't a thing? I remember working on this almost 10 years ago and just got put back in the bishopric. Guess I've got to go into the office crazy enough. Seems like such an easy one to add!
