How are middle names removed from the directory information? A few families in our ward shoe up that way, but most do not.

The ward clerk (or membership clerk) can set the preferred name in MLS to exclude the middle name.

But this unfortunately doesn't have the desired affect in Europe, especially.

True enough, but since the original post said that several families don't have middle names, I assumed that the question was not regarding Europe. If many of the member names don't have middle names, then the preferred names must be what is displayed, and so it's a data problem, not a system problem. That implies that a clerk just needs to fix the preferred names.

Sorry, I read the post as meaning First name Second name Surname etc..

As you may have noticed in other threads, on the forum, this middle/preferred name problem is a bit of a hobby horse for me, as it has been going on as far as I can recall for nearly a year now.

I thought of the issue that middle names are displayed in the online directory regardless of the preferred name settings in MLS. Was that the question?

For me yes. From previous threads on the forum it appears that this affects Europe, maybe other areas of the world, but not necessarily America.

One of the team developing the web Directory, actually asked for page header details. I believe 2 or 3 people from Europe responded. We have been waiting ever since for a result

I have great sympathy for the problem you are experiencing in Europe where preferred names are not displayed in the directory. But once again, that's not what this thread is about. So please discuss that issue in a separate thread.

Will do!

But I still think the OP is a little ambiguous as to exactly what he is referring too.

Sorry to hark on, but in one of your earlier posts about this, you mention several families and middle names! If he is referring to the problem, we have in Europe, then this the correct thread!

If not, then I'm in the wrong! Unfortunately we don't know which part of the world he's in, which would help a great deal.
