Thank you, I have put in a change today and whilst I still get the popup to tell me it will be 24hrs until it is updated I see the change is applied to Directory straight away.

The infrastructure that supports the editing of profile information from the Directory application was upgraded last week. One of the features of the upgrade is the ability to process these profile edits in real-time. So this issue is resolved now.
For the time being there is still a 24-hour message in the application, that will be removed as soon as we have a minute to put a new version of Directory into production.
