We have a stake family history calendar that I have unsubscribed to, but the calendar events still show up on my calendar. If I subscribe to the calendar the events change color to "grey" the color of the Family History calendar, if I unsubscribe to the family history calendar the events change color to purple the color of our stake activity calendar and remain on my calendar. The individual events are in fact on the family history calendar.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Most likely you have the building checked as well so it is displaying events that occur in the building even if you don't subscribe to the calendar they are on. If you want to remove them from the display you'll have to uncheck the box by the building in the Locations section of the left bar.
