How to block the calendar year until stake adds events.

What is the best way to block all ward and stake calendar layers so that no one can add and event until the stake has their events on the calendar?

Scenario

We want to fix it so that no one can add events to 2015 calendars (both ward and stake) until the stake sets the 2015 calendar events.

Create a restriction for the stake for all days/nights in 2015. (Or did you mean 2014?)

The alternative is to instruct the users not to schedule anything. Violators (found by building conflicts) will be chastised.

That's what we do -- except there is no chastisement. We simply delete any events that create a conflict (which is extremely rare, anyway).

It's simpler for us than creating a restriction. And a restriction stops all the wards from creating any events at all, when really there are plenty of events that wards can create that don't cause any problems at all, even before the stake has completed its calendaring.

Nope 2015 was correct our stake calendar boss is just trying to get ahead.

Assuming that the person scheduling has (or can go to) someone with Building Scheduler rights. Even then, I'm not sure as they can delete. I seem to remember a developer commenting that was unintended. But they can "de-locate" a conflicting event.

A building scheduler can most definitely delete any event scheduled for their building. You're right that we were told that such power was unintended, but the fact is that it is still possible.

Nonetheless, changing the location to "Other Location" is a kinder action for this situation -- at least the ward still has the event and can move it to another day or location.
