Private Calendar Block from Admininstrator

Postby mmkids6 » Thu Dec 27, 2012 1:45 pm

As the Stake Administrator for the Calendars, I created several private calendars for our various organizations to use for presidency meetings, etc. Those that were given edit and view rights were the presidencies and the Stake Presidency members including the Tech. Specialist. We have been using the calendars now for two years, and periodically I go in to make adjustments to them based on individuals that are released because we could only add them my name. Now I find that I am unable to go in and make those modifications and that I am locked out even though I am in there for each calendar. Is there something that has happened and what can I do to fix it?

There have been a number of complaints about private calendars. I'm not sure as there's anything that can be done right now until a update/fix is rolled out at some time in the unknown future.

I'm not sure why you say you couldn't add them by calling. Some private calendars were set up in our stake some time ago and they seem to be functioning OK even after a turnover in the stake presidency.

I have about 10 private calendars that have been setup, that I have had access to, to update as needed. Only two do I have access to right now, the rest have me locked out. The reason why I have names in some versus callings is because I don't need the whole High Council having access to a particular calendar, only the one they have stewardship over, so they are in their by name. I have a missionary calendar that has all the ward mission leaders by name since we can't use there calling on a stake calendar. Now I need to make some changes due to some releases and sustainings, but I can't. I really need to get these updated but as the Stake Asst. Clerk - Tech Specialist, I am locked out even though I am in each calendar with view and edit assigned to them.

I have a similar issue in our ward with private calendars. I ended up not being able to modify users, so I started a new calendar that seems to work fine. But, I cannot delete the old calendar. Can that be done?

Old calendars can certainly be deleted, but you'll have to supply some more details:
  • Do you have a standard calling that makes you a default calendar administrator?
  • Are you dealing with ward or stake calendars?
  • On the Calendar list under Settings, does the calendar you want to delete appear on the list?
  • Does that calendar have a red x at the extreme right of its entry on the calendar list?
  • What happens when you click that red x?

I was also locked out of the private stake presidency calendar I had created. I just clicked the red X, and it looks like it deleted that calendar without problem.

Speaking from experience as another stake website administrator, I'll point out that being locked out of a private calendar is a possibility that you will always face as a stake website administrator. There are some quirky things going on with private calendars and one of them seems to be that there are some limited permissions granted to you by being the one to create a private calendar, which may or may not be happening by design... It seems if you create a private calendar and then remove yourself from the list of viewers and editors, you no longer see the calendar events nor can you subscribe to it (this is expected) but you still have the ability to add and remove other editors (possibly not expected). Really if the Stake President is using a calendar for interviews only he and his executive secretary should have any edit/administration rights to that calendar. Otherwise, any default administrator could add themselves or others to that calendar at any time and the see the events/appointments on the calendar.

If the Stake Relief Society president creates a private calendar for her presidency to use and doesn't add you to the list of viewers and editors, once approved by an administrator, only those added as editors will be able to add others to the list. Default administrators will have no access to edit or administer that calendar. This is how it should be for all private calendars.

I personally have the gut feeling that any permission you get over a calendar solely because you created it is not an intended thing. I could be wrong, but it doesn't feel right for me to have access like that.

I can't remember exactly the sequence of events in my case. I had created the private calendar when I was the stake executive secretary. When I switched to being the stake clerk, I could not edit that private calendar.

However, my memory is not perfect of these events.
