Duplicate events for same location

Problem: The system has allowed two events to be scheduled for the same location.

Both submitters followed the proper procedures. One event was from a ward and the other was a stake event. This is the first time we have seen this happen.

Did you check to make sure that these two events both use the same room in the same location, and that they are indeed at overlapping times? Sometimes people schedule different rooms, or they use the "Other Location" feature and type in the name of the room without booking the actual room.

That said, there have been very rare occasions where the calendar system has been known to allow an actual double booking, as reported in the thread Calendar Error - Double booking has occurred!.

Along with what aebrown said, are these both events or is one a "reservation". If so, then you've just found out why we strongly discourage using "reservations" for events.

We are having the same issue when we have items that are reserved on the Reservation Calendar they are able to be over ridden by any other event.
When will this be fixed?

If you rename "reservation" as "scheduling restriction" and look at who scheduled the events and you'll see that it's working as intended.

NEVER use "reservations" to "book" a room for an event. Use an event and select the rooms used.

It's not the system that needs to be fixed, it's the way it's being used.

Never. That's exactly how reservations are supposed to work. The term "reservation" is an unfortunate misnomer; it's really more of a scheduling "restriction". It doesn't book the building like an event does, but simply restricts units (other than the one listed on the reservation) from being able to create events for the specified location/room at the specified time. Only an event reliably books the location/room.

I'd suggest that you read the Making Reservations help topic, focusing particularly on the sections titled "Reservations Versus Scheduled Events" and "Event Conflicts with Reservations."

Also, there are many topics on this forum discussing this issue; you might try the topic Reservation terminology.

We are planning to address the terminology issue in an upcoming release. I added this forum link to the existing JIRA issue. The problem keeps recurring, doesn't it.
