New reservation conflict feedback still not shown

It doesn't seem that this issue ever was resolved -

[thread]13009[/thread]

Trying to do some 2013 reservations after we did our initial stake calendaring for monthly activities (i.e. adjusting a Ward Cub Scout Pack meetings on 4th Thursday). If there is a conflict, nothing indicates that there is a conflict. The details page just shows with no highlighting.

At the very least there should be some indication around which dates are conflicting. Even better would be to exclude those dates so the recurrence reservation could complete.

What makes this even more difficult to over come is the fact that you can't work around it like a normal event recurrence. For those you can do "No Location", delete the items that conflict, then go back and update the event with the locations you need. Can't do that on a reservation.

Point of clarification...this occurs only when "Blocked - Location Unavailable" is selected. When you select a unit it allows reservations to be entered even if there are events scheduled. I just replaced "Blocked" with our stake as the unit since we have a restricted number of stake editors/administrators. I would expect "Blocked" to function similar, but it doesn't.

I think you have reservations confused with events, which is a common problem. You should be creating events. Please see the online help for more information:
If you have more questions, there are several discussion threads about this on the forum.

Here are some threads I just found (there are more):

I'm not so sure. One purpose for creating reservations to to allow scheduling for next year in phases. For example, if you block everyone, then only someone with building scheduler rights can place events. Then you can change it to stake to let the stake calendar editors submit their events. Then lastly you change it to the final configuration of no reservations or only reservations for ward night.

He seems to understand that reservations should be able to go on top of any events, but it's not doing that in some cases.

You might be right. I read the post a little more carefully. The last paragraph makes me think dsheper understands some differences.

Reading the message again, I think dsheper would like reservations to report conflicting events when the reservation is made, which is not something it currently does? I would think if this was added that the person creating the reservation would want to know two things.

Let's suppose I'm making a reservation for the Stony Brook Ward to use the entire building from 6 PM to 10 PM on Tuesday nights for all of 2013. When I create the reservation, I'd like to know the following:
  • A list of already-scheduled events on Tuesday nights in 2013 that were booked by someone who is not in the Stony Brook ward. I want to know this because I may need to contact these people to ask them to move their events.
  • A list of already-scheduled events on Tuesday nights in 2013 that were booked by someone in the Stony Brook ward. I want to know this because maybe the intent is for the Stony Brook youth to use the building and the Stony Brook Relief Society has already planned some meetings on Tuesday nights in 2013. I'll need to make sure the Relief Society and youth leaders agree on this.
I think this could be a valuable addition to help Building Schedulers when creating new reservations. While it's true there are no double-booked resources, the Building Scheduler is at least aware of the situation and can proactively discuss it with the groups involved, possibly well in advance of a real conflict.

I don't know if this is what dsheper is looking for or not. However, I think it would be useful.

I think there are two issues:

1) Making a reservation for "blocked" does not work if there's a "conflicting" event. That's contrary to my understanding of how things should work. Reservations, especially repeating reservations, should go on top of events without any problems.

2) But given issue #1, there's a second issue in that you're not warned about any conflicts - it just doesn't work. You're left to find the conflict on your own. In this case, it means looking though the entire year. Painful to say the least.

These are exactly the issues.

I had these issues last year when setting up the calendar. Fortunately not many events were scheduled yet then as we were just starting to use the calendar so it was easier to resolve.
