Imposrting events from Outlook

I have recently been called as the website administrator for our stake and also have the responsibility of the calendar and booking of the building. I now have all the access I need to do things and permissions are set correctly.

My first thought for doing 2013 calendar was to do it in Outlook then import into the stake calendar. I did a few events as a trial and then went to the import events function in the online calendar.

I can import the file and the events are listed and I can select them, BUT I can't see the calendars to choose where to import. There are no calendars listed. I did see elsewhere that you need to be subscribed and have per mission - all this is right.

So what am I doing wrong?

Any help really appreciated as this is proving to be a learning curve

You can do that, but you won't be able to fill in the location information. So you'd end up going back though the list setting up the rooms and buildings to prevent conflicts with later events.

If you've not already entered them, you're better off doing in the calendar rather then importing.

I had thought of doing it that way but we also do a printed version for members so I need something with a little more formatting available for the print version. From looking at the options the best way for the building/rooms is through the reservation system and I would need to do that separately anyway.

I would strongly discourage using the reservation system for your events. Not only is it a lot of extra work, it will only cause confusion and grief. If you do choose to import events from another system, I guarantee you'll be much happier editing the vents to add locations/rooms.

Okay, will that stop people from using those locations at the same time? We have three wards ans the stake using the same building.

Also I know I can print from the online calendar but can I download it?

Yes. When you schedule an event in the Cultural Hall at 7PM on Tuesday, the calendar will not allow anyone else in any unit to schedule the Cultural Hall during that time period - reservations or no.

Yes. See syncing with third-party calendars, the section "Export the Calendar as an iCal File"

Of course, when you have your mind on one thing you sometimes forget alternatives. Syncing would be the answer. Thanks so much for all the help
