I'm a ward admin on our calendar system. A member of the ward posted an event. The time he originally entered showed up as 4:00 to 6:00 PM. He contacted me, because he wanted the time changed to 7:00 to 9:00 PM. I made the change. (or so it showed on my calendar). His calendar still said 4:00 to 6:00 PM. I took a screen shot of my calendar, and showed him it said 7:00 PM. He took a screen shot of his and it said 4:00 PM. He re-entered the event and was able to change the time to 7:00 to 9:00. When it showed up on my calendar it says the event begins at 10:00 PM. Now we're both confused.

I'm thinking that it has something to do with a time zone setting on one of our accounts. Not sure if there is a way to change that, or if it's automatic to the ward we are assigned, but we are both in the same ward, so it should be the same time zone... I have an email into the help desk, but stumbled upon this forum and thought it might shed some light. Thanks for any help!

It's the time zone setting of the computer. One of you have the wrong time zone set.

Thanks! I will ask him to check his later when I see him at church. I just checked mine, and it says EST.

IF he was away on business and made the change, do you think it would have produced the same problem?

If his machine is set to Pacific Time Zone, that would explain why he's 3 hours behind.

(Shouldn't you be on EDT, not EST?)

We have a member who travels a lot to the next time zone east of us and does a lot of calendaring. If we have an event in our time zone set to begin at 7:00 pm, and he travels east and allows his computer to switch time zones, the event will display at 8:00 pm for him. The event display switches back to 7:00 pm when he returns home and his laptop resets to local time.

If he decides to enter calendar information from the time zone to the east while he is traveling, and his laptop is set to that time zone, he will enter everything an hour later than it will really occur at home. It displays the correct time in our time zone, and when he returns home and his laptop switches back to local time, all of the events switch to local time, as well.

It sounds as if jrispoli described a similar situation where one person was on the west coast and one was on the east coast, hence the three-hour difference.

Our traveling member, who allows his laptop to float between time zones, always needs to remember that the meetings he saw while he was traveling that were scheduled for 8:00 pm, will really be held at 7:00 pm when he returns to his home timezone. And his laptop will say the same thing when it returns home and resets.
