Many times i go into the calendar and i want to locate a building somewhere in the stake where i can have an event. the problem is i have to rumage through thousands of meetings (which i could care less what they are (Bobs family renuion, Betties wedding, etc) i just care if they are using the building) to figure out what building is open. I propose a new feature calended "Perspectives". The concept would be to create a calendar view that merges many meetings into a single block based on the perspective shown. So if i select a building as my "Perspective" then all meetings that use the building (including clean up time and everything) get consolidated in the view into single continous block with the name "Mulit Events Building X perspective". Now i can easly see open breaks when the building is open. Outlook using this concept in its meeting creator. When you have many people included in a meeting you can ignore each person and just look at the very top of the meeting scheduler and it will show open blocks of time when everyone is available. I am not suggesting the exact same style but what i am looking for is the same concept. One continious block with breaks in the block when the building or resource is not in use.

It may not be quite as slick as what you are proposing, but the current calendar already has features that get you 90% of what you are asking for. Here's the process:
  1. Go into Week view
  2. Hide all calendars (there's a link that lets you hide them all at once).
  3. Check the box by the location (building) you are interested in.
You will now see only the events (and reservations) associated with that building, complete with setup and cleanup time. It's quite easy in that view to see open time blocks for the building.

Now there's still a challenge of figuring out the specific rooms in the building (one of the events may be in the high council room, but you're looking for the Primary room or the multi-purpose room, so that time slot is essentially open for you), but at least this approach will show you the building usage at a glance.

And if you have multiple buildings that are options for you, you can check more than one location box.
