Duty to God - Windows 8

Postby msheets » Mon Nov 12, 2012 3:21 pm

Just had an awesome thought. A Duty to God (Personal Progress) app actually becomes a very viable idea with Windows 8. Both parents and youth could easily access it on the desktop which makes it easy to do together at home, something that can be difficult on a smart phone or tablet, especially if youth don't have them. And it would still be readily accessible on mobile devices for parents and for youth if they do have them. Really would be awesome.

I realize that perhaps the biggest reason not to do it or to wait is that something like this could be deployed on the internet instead. Three potential rebuttals of that argument (which could be used generally against Windows 8 apps):

(1) they can be accessed without internet access with data stored/updated locally and then synced and
(2) no need to worry about browser issues and
(3) internet sites are difficult to access and use on mobile devices--again dealing with browsers--whereas a native app can be much more usable.

I agree. Windows 8 opens up many opportunities for desktop/mobile synergy. Based on some other threads going on around Windows 8 I think the IT department in the Church is seeing that there is demand for Windows 8 apps. I'm not sure if they are planning on supporting it or not. It seems like there is some aversion to it amongst at least some developers with most focus being on IOS/Android but that some progress might be being made, in part at least, due to the interest being shown on these forums. I'd encourage everyone to leave their vote of support rather than just reading the posts.

Here is the link to the Windows 8 thread. I can't ever find it when I follow the menus but I ran into it when searching a different thread. It's getting a lot of traffic so some people must be finding it.
