Video Conferencing-Using Team Viewer

I recently attended a local class on Family History. A side comment was made that the Church is using "Team Viewer" to help members and leaders conduct some meetings where distance is an issue. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a topic or thread that would address using Team Viewer or any other service? I would like to find any information on conducting effective meetings via Video Conference etc. Thank you for any direction or help.

I'm not sure about Team Viewer. There was a conference sometime back where we were told that we couldn't use the free version of Team Viewer in our calling as Stake Technology Specialists without violating their licensing terms.

There is Personal Video Conferencing. However, looking at the list of Who Can Use Personal Video Conferencing (PVC), I don't see any signs that it could be used for Family History.

There are lots of options. Skype and Google Hangouts come to mind. The only restriction I'm finding for Skype is that accounts can't be shared – people have to use their personal accounts. I'm not finding any restrictions for Google Hangouts. As alluded to above, Team Viewer is free for personal use but it is not free for commercial use. Church use is generally considered commercial/business use.

Thank you, this was the information I was looking for. The only way it could be used is if the Bishop so needed to invite the ward council. that seems to be the extent of it. Yet if a bishop so needed to it sound like to me he could invite anyone in the ward to participate as long as they were conducting the business of the Ward. Or the Stake President conducting the business of the stake.

Some good points, I have found that Google Hang Outs is probably a good choice it will allow up to ten people in one call, you have access to audio, video, and text and can use which you want or all. Apparently many companies out there have free access to Conferencing at one level and with paying for more features. I have been involved with FreeConference.com and I have heard of Zoom and then Team Viewer. But I am fairly sure that there are many more options out there. Wondering if their are any topics/threads about controlling the quality of the audio in a multiple (3-more) audio call.

I dug into this. It's on this video at around the 31:10 mark. It appears the issue is that the free version of Team Viewer can't be legally installed on church-owned machines. But that still leaves open the question of if it's legal to use Team Viewer in all the machines are owned by individual members, even if the work is part of a church calling.

Thank you for much for taking the time to do this, it is appreciated.

Here is the relevant licensing information regarding TeamViewer:

https://www.teamviewer.com/en/help/213- ... se-defined

As written, as long as you aren't using it with a paid church employee you are good to go.

The phrase "use in associations and non-profit organizations with non-volunteer (i.e. paid) employees" would need clarification as it could include any non-profit that has paid employees regardless of if they are a part of the the Teamviewer session. That would explain why the church was turned down for use with clerk computers.

Zoom is a fairly recent discovery for our stake. It's the first solution we've found that is stable for us.
We're on the far side of the earth and distributed across national firewalls. its worked so consistantly that we're considering use for stk broadcasts rather than Vidiu.
