Scriptures Appears to Continuously Sync on iPhone

When I use the gospel library on my iPhone, the app appears to sync continuously. My phone's battery suffers greatly and the phone gets hot as its processing the entire time I am in the app. The only way I have been able to not have it sync is by turning off both Wi-Fi and data on my phone. Is there a setting I can change to control when it tries to sync with the servers? or does someone else have a remedy for this?

I guess I should have tried this earlier. I think I have resolved this. I deleted the app from my phone, rebooted my phone and then reinstalled the app. It appears to have stopped continuously syncing.
