Dear Android Developers,
First I have to thank you for developing a wonderful app for android! I am happy to always carry around the scriptures on my phone now . I already wanted to write my own app, before I heard that the church is already working on an official version .
While considering to write my own version i saw that the IPhone app downloads the books from the internet. I know that the IPhone supports SQLite and hoped that the books will be in this format so that i could download to my phone and display them with an own app. I found out the source of the books. (by monitoring all the network traffic while running the iphone app)
All possible books to download in english are found here:
the books are in a .zbook format. I wonder what kind of format that is? It is not sqlite. But maybe something you could read in the android app? as well it looks like support for multiple languages is give. just try http://scriptures.ldsslice.com/static/catalog/es.json so maybe later as well de.json and so on.
Why i am writing this. I think the concept behing the iphone app is great that you download all the books that you like. and so you don't have to download all at first. just the ones you really want/need.
As well i think it is easier if you have to add a new manual or magazine (ensign) in one place instead of two places.
Maybe the people behind the IPhone app could tell us more about that? Would be nice .
By the way. I might be willing to help developing the gosepl library starting July this year. Currently I am working on my bachelor project in software engineering. But besides I did some projects on Android. But it depends on how much work I will have in July.
It would be nice to hear, what your opinion is about what i mentioned above. Maybe it is impossible. But if it is possible, it would be nice i think.
